CLASSIC CURVES

Click the image or title for fine art prints

Black and white, head on, close-up view of a 1940s era classic car loaded with chrome, and of course those classic curves! When this was shot, I had just started college courses to obtain my degree in photography. I was told that it was a good idea to try to photograph subjects that appealed to me, so I began searching for rusty old vehicles like this one. I imagined coming across allot of old tractors and farm trucks sitting in rural fields, which I did, but for some reason an unusually large percentage of the vehicles I discovered were old DeSotos. I can only speculate as to why there were / are so many of this particular manufacturer's cars all around rural Oklahoma, but fortunately they make wonderful subjects for a photo shoot. DADDY NEEDS A CADDY

DASH THAT DOESN'T DASH

Click the image or title for fine art prints

Monochrome shot of the neglected yet still beautiful interior of an old classic DeSoto Clipper Sedan. Shot from the passenger side front window, the steering wheel, column, 3 on the tree shifter, and most of the dashboard can be seen along with random pieces of the headliner hanging down into frame. Normally one would not photograph through glass, but with the lighting conditions what they were and a monochrome final image in mind, I felt that shooting through the glass would help give a slightly hazy, ethereal look; conveying a feeling of a memory. Shot in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.

I CAN'T DRIVE 55

Click the image or title for fine art prints

Monochrome close-up view of a section of dashboard of a vintage 1960s era Volkswagen Beetle. The speedometer can be clearly seen through the open interior space of the steering wheel and is in focus, while the rest of frame is blurred and slightly less contrasted, drawing attention to the speedometer. While the whole car inside and out looks pretty rough, it doesn't appear to be beyond repair and restoration, and my hopes are that someone will see her potential and bring her back to her original glory. While they are still a popular choice in transportation, the Beetle certainly is an iconic representation of 60s and 70s culture. Shot in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.

JUST ADD WHEELS

An old Lincoln Continental with plenty of ornate chrome and rear suicide doors sits with no wheels waiting for some TLC so it can get back to being the hot rod Lincoln that it once was. Shot in Kiowa, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.

MADE FOR CRUISING

DEERE JOHN

Click the image or title for fine art prints

Retro style view of an old John Deere tractor sitting in a rural field bordered by bare trees of winter. The location where this was shot is a rural explorer's jackpot, as the town was established in the 1800s and as of the last census now has a population of 43. Not quite a ghost town, but close enough when it comes to treasures such as this. I definitely plan on some return trips. Shot in Sugden, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.

DELIVERING THE PAST

Click the image or title for fine art prints

Selective color, retro style view of a restored, old Chevy stake-bed delivery truck. This beautiful old truck, is still making deliveries like it did back in its heyday. But restoring, and preserving this beauty is about much more than having a fancy, yet functional delivery vehicle. It's also a way of investing in both the past, and the future. The old truck will continue to provide the important service of delivering feed and supplies to local farms, ranches, and families. It will also stand out and be very recognizable in connection to the business. But it will also serve as a reminder of how different, both good and bad, things were back when it was made, compared to today. And it is a wonderful example of how we are capable of making things of incomparable beauty, strength, and quality, when we remember that our craftsmanship is a huge part our legacy. DODGE VS. RUST

Click the image or title for fine art prints

Retro style view of a very old, and very rusty, Dodge sedan car. Even with its missing headlight, damaged parts, and heavy rust, one can see the care that was taken in the design and production of this beautiful old car. She surely was quite the attention grabber, and most likely was noticed and admired by most that she passed by. Shot in Chouteau, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.

EVEN HISTORY IS FOR SALE

Click the image or title for fine art prints

Head-on view of a vintage old sedan sitting in a field, battling rust and the elements, with a for sale sign in the windshield. One can only imagine the stories this old beauty could tell, and the miles that it carried precious cargo in comfort and style. This is actually one of the first images I shot when I started school to get my degree in photography, and had just recently obtained my first DSLR camera. Basically I was out searching for something at least half way interesting to photograph, and I came across this beauty. That was the start of my ongoing love affair with photographing rusty old vehicles, old barns, abandoned buildings, and all things with some obvious signs of age and character. FLAT ON RACE DAY

Retro style view of an old vintage Ford pickup truck. Shot from an angle at the front right of the truck at ground level, in order to give a sense of dimension, and an appreciation of the craftsmanship that went into creating the shapely design of this beauty. They just don't make them like they used to, certainly applies here. Processed and edited using a variety of techniques to give a look of an old photo that is in the process of being restored. Shot in Chouteau, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.

GET CLOSER TO THE FORD

Click the image or title for fine art prints

Monochrome extreme close-up of the front grille section of a vintage old Ford Truck. In top frame the massive and heavy hood can be seen with its ornate vent portals. Just underneath the hood is a good sized Ford emblem, and below that the old round headlights line either side of the very unique grille. One can see the craftsmanship, creativity, and pride in their work that went into this beauty. Although she obviously shows signs of wear and tear, the metal body is still solid as ever, the chrome nice and shiny, and the old round headlights add character to her "face". Shot in Chouteau, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.

GOING OUT GANGSTER STYLE

Click the image or title for fine art prints

Retro style view of an abandoned old DeSoto with rear suicide doors among other features, parked in a field waiting to be recycled. This beautiful old DeSoto sedan obviously had an interesting life. Talk about top of the line. With massive amounts of chrome, suicide doors, and dual spotlights, whitewall tires, among other amenities, she was ready for just about any type of road trip. Now, many years after retirement, she still looks as beautiful as ever as she awaits restoration and many more road trip stories to add to her repertoire. Shot in Chouteau, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.

HAPPY OLD PICKUP

Click the image or title for fine art prints

Retro style selective color close-up, head on view of a 1940's era, vintage Ford pickup truck that has been about 75% restored and looking ready to hit the road once again. Just a quick glance, and one has to appreciate the craftsmanship and attention to detail that went into this beautiful old vehicle, as with most of this era. This thing feels like it could double as a tank, and in many aspects probably could! Shot in Chouteau, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.

HARVESTER OF RUST

Click the image or title for fine art prints

Distressed / retro style, selective color side view of an abandoned old International Harvester stake bed truck. When I came across this beauty I had seen nothing like it before. Not only is the metal that makes up the body super thick and heavy, but I had never seen a truck cab that was so thin, with only enough room for the driver and that's all. With the exception of some heavy rust and a few flat tires, she really looked as though it wouldn't take much to make her road worthy again. But, perhaps she'd rather stay retired, since it does appear that she worked very hard all her life. Shot in Chouteau, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.

MERCURY BLUES

Click the image or title for fine art prints

Selective color view of an old Mercury as it sits rusting away in a field surrounded by weeds and other junked vehicles. This beauty will need a little work before anyone who's crazy 'bout a Mercury, can cruise it up and down the road. Shot in Chouteau, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.

YOUR LITTLE PONY

Click the image or title for fine art prints

Selective color, retro style view of a fully restored, classic, 1960s red Ford Mustang. The car itself displays its glorious red paint job, while the surroundings are in monochrome. Shot from a fairly high angle at the left front to give a dramatic perspective and highlight the natural light reflecting off of it. Shot in Pryor, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.

MILITARY RETIREMENT?

Click the image or title for fine art prints

An old military jeep sits abandoned in a rural field, rotting away, surrounded by random junk, debris, overgrown weeds, and trees, getting an intense dose of sunshine. While it is sad to see such a beauty discarded and forgotten, unfortunately, far too many human veterans suffer a similar fate, for which there truly is no excuse. Shot in Marlow, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.

NICE PAIR

Close-up view of a pair of old round headlights set in the billet grille of an old Lincoln, with a bit of artistic flare added. Shot in Kiowa, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.

NO FRILLS

Click the image or title for fine art prints

Black and white close-up view of a section of the interior of an old, vintage, WWII military transport vehicle. One can see that even with several gauges, knobs, levers, and such in the cab, this baby was definitely not designed with comfort or convenience in mind. It's good to see vehicles and other items like this being saved from the scrap pile, and allowing people to get just a little glimpse at the life of a soldier during the historic WWII period. Shot at the USS Batfish museum in Muskogee, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.

NO MISSIONS TODAY

Click the image or title for fine art prints

Retro style side view of an abandoned old military truck. This old beauty looks like it's seen plenty of action, but was obviously built to take the use and abuse of military duty. Complete with white star on the door, and plenty of rust, this old vehicle definitely has character. Shot in Chouteau, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.

THREE ON THE TREE UNDER GLASS

Click the image or title for fine art prints

Close-up view of a section of interior of an old Packard Clipper that has definitely seen some stuff, shot through the passenger side window. While the interior shows signs of wear, neglect, and ravages of time, one can still see the "whistles and bells" that came standard with such vehicles back in the day. "Three on the tree" was a term used to reference the type of transmission used in some of the old vehicles. It was a 3-speed, manual transmission, with the clutch in the usual place on the floor, but the shifter was on the column as can be seen here. Definitely a bit dis-orienting driving one for the first time. Shot in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.

OLD WRECKERS NEVER DIE

Click the image or title for fine art prints

Vintage style monochrome view of a rusty old vintage Ford wrecker tow truck that has been modified and personalized sitting in a rural field. There are not many of these beauties still around, and I'm quite sure there's even less that have modified such as this one. Whether at the beginning or end of its career, I'm sure people noticed this tow truck coming from quite a distance away. Shot in Pryor, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.

CHEVY PUT OUT TO PASTURE

Click the image or title for fine art prints

Retro style view of an old Chevrolet C60 work truck with a rare 427 engine. This old Chevy is sporting a dual rear axle, side carriage fuel tanks, air horn, and a whole lot of rust. This old beauty looks like she performed many a heavy duty task during her day, and has no been literally put out to pasture for retirement. Shot in Ryan, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.

PARKING FOR THE BAD DOG

Click the image or title for fine art prints

Close-up shot of an old 1949 Nash sedan in need of some TLC. While the whole car is covered with rust, and in need of several other repairs, this old beauty is really not in bad shape as far as a restoration project goes. One can still see the amazing design, attention to detail, and of course, large amounts of chrome that went into its making. Shot in Kiowa, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.

PATRIOT OF OLD

Click the image or title for fine art prints

Many people, inventions, and innovations helped to build our nation, through allot of work and determination. Vehicles like this vintage Chevy pickup truck were there through a great deal of it. Without trusty old trucks like this, many farming tasks, construction projects, deliveries, and so much more would have been far more difficult, if not impossible. As a bit of history of this particular image. I photographed the truck at a construction site where it was still being used by one of the workers. I photographed the flag during a ceremony at a cemetery where the VFW was making a tribute to some fellow veterans who had passed on. Shot in Adair, Oklahoma and Tulsa, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.

PEACE LOVE AND TRACTORS

CAT WITH A HARD HAT

FLY WITH FLARE

Usually sun flares are not desirable in a photograph, and are to be avoided. One of several challenges when shooting a backlit subject. But every once in a while those pesky artifacts can add character and liven up an image, which is what I felt to be the case when photographing this plane for a corporate assignment. Shot in Duncan, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.

THE OLD WRECKER IS 10-10

Click the image or title for fine art prints

Monochrome, retro style side view of an abandoned old Chevy wrecker / tow truck sitting in a rural field rusting away. The old truck has a dual rear axle, saddle fuel tanks, an air horn, and a large, heavy duty metal container in back. SO RUSTY AND BLUE

Click the image or title for fine art prints

DRIVE A CORVAIR IF YOU DARE

Click the image or title for fine art prints

Retro style, selective color, head-on view of an old 1960's Chevy Corvair. These were great cars, but they received a bad report from a "consumer advocate" back in the day. So, sales dropped off, and production stopped soon after. It was later proven that the safety data being reported had been inaccurate, and exaggerated, But by then, it was too late for the Corvair.
