A DIFFERENT VERSION OF WINDOWS
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Retro style, low angle view of the front of an old building in downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma. The rows and rows of windows not only help to give a feel of symmetry, but also display the intricate and ornate design elements of the vintage architecture. Processed using a variety of techniques to give a retro, nostalgic feel to the whole image. Although advances in safety and security features of newer buildings are definitely a good thing, there's something to be said for the care, craftsmanship, artistry, and history that old beauties like this exude. ARCHITECTURE OF FAITH
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Retro style view of an old brick church building with many windows and other ornate fixtures adorning the exterior of the beautiful architecture. Processed using a variety of techniques to give the overall appearance of a somewhat recovered vintage photo. They just don't make them like they used to certainly applies here. ASHES TO ASHES TREES TO TREES
Click the image or title for fine art prints
An abandoned and heavily weathered old wooden church in a field in the countryside under a light fog, being hit by morning light breaking through the haze. Although the exterior looks pretty rough, upon closer inspection it appears to be in pretty good shape on the inside and the exterior seems like it could be repaired as well. Of course that's just my non-contractor opinion, but it gives me a little hope that perhaps someday, someone might restore this old beauty. BRIDGE OF MANY GENERATIONS
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Selective color ground level view of a very old bridge with a heavily worn brick road, shot with a vanishing perspective. Everyone knows of Historic Route 66. The old road holds a whole lot of significant memories. This bridge along the original Route 66, is one of the few remaining original features. Even though its rusting girders and well aged brick pavement may give one pause before crossing, this bridge, and connecting section of Route 66 are still heavily traveled every day. One can only imagine the number of wheels that have rolled along its surface. Hopefully, the old bridge will be around for quite some time, connecting roads, and history to modern day travel. CHURCH AND HISTORY
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Retro style view of a very old and ornate church in downtown. Tulsa, and the surrounding area, has plenty of beautiful, vintage architecture to marvel at. This old church is certainly no exception, and still exudes a sense of strength and safe haven for its visitors. Shot in Tulsa, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
YE OL' BLACKSMITH
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Retro style view of an old wooden blacksmith shop with a tin roof, old wagon wheel on the wall, and a couple of old metal milk cans lining the outer wall. Back in the "wild west" days the blacksmith shop was definitely a necessity for business as usual. Shot in Cleburne, Texas. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
CHURCH IN STYLE
Click the image or title for fine art prints
An abandoned old wooden church in the countryside surrounded by overgrown brush. Picher, Oklahoma is a very eerie place to visit since it was evacuated by the federal government years ago. This was a mining town for many decades. Eventually contamination from the chap piles, mines caving in under the town, and a huge tornado, made this a ghost town. Everywhere we visited, not only did it feel as though there were thousands of invisible eyes watching us, but there was also a feeling in the air that can only be described as a sort of static electricity. This beautiful old church has since been torn down due to potential hazards to visitors. Gone, but definitely not forgotten! Shot in Picher, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
IS THAT?
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Ground level, close-up view of an ornate manhole cover, set in a brick road, with liquid pooled around it and running off in small streams reflecting the surroundings. The rest is up to your imagination. Shot in downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
ESCAPE
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Monochrome view of the side of an old brick building with multiple fire escape ladders leading upward, along with tons of windows. Shot from ground level looking upward giving a vanishing perspective. Although modern safety features have pretty much done away with fire escapes, at least in this form, there is still something impressive about the rows and rows of metal attached to the side of a building, giving a sort of "big city" feel. Shot in downtown, Tulsa, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
ESTABLISHED 1927
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Exterior of an abandoned old stone building in a small town slowly being reclaimed by nature. This was a car dealership at one time, and has apparently suffered a fire that claimed the roof and several interior walls. The town where this was shot was a very interesting place to visit. While there were a few homes and businesses that were obviously occupied and functional, there were just as many buildings that had long been abandoned. Many areas appeared as though they had just been given up on during an attempted restoration. In any case, I hope to someday return and do more exploring. HALF THE BRIDGE I USED TO BE
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Monochrome vertical view of an abandoned old bridge partially removed, but still crossing part of the river and reflecting in the water. At one time, this was the only connecting road between Pryor Creek, Oklahoma, and neighboring Locust Grove, Oklahoma. Standing at the end of the bridge, looking down at the few remaining, rotting boards that used to cover the steel beams that made up the road, one is almost overwhelmed with a sort of residual energy surrounding this spot. So many travelers crossed this bridge, leaving a spec of their story behind to settle in with the rust and dust on the now long abandoned pathway. CHURCH WITHOUT A STEEPLE
Click the image or title for fine art prints
An abandoned old wooden church building in a rural field. At the front of the old building a cross obviously used to be attached to the outside of the building, and is missing now, but the outline where it used to sit can still be seen against the heavily weathered, and peeling wooden siding. The roof is missing allot of shingles, and a large tree at the back of the church adds to the ambience of the scene but is also damaging that section of the building. Another tree has sprung up right next to the front door and does not appear to be helping the condition of the structure either. When standing outside this old beauty, one can almost hear the singing of hymns and worship that used to stream out of the arched windows that line the building. BARN OF HISTORY
Click the image or title for fine art prints
High key black and white view of an old barn in the countryside that has seen better days. With obvious signs of weathering, multiple damaged areas, rot and decay, combined with vines and other plant life attempting to reclaim the old building, it's a pretty good bet, that this old barn's days are numbered. While shooting this, I met the owner of the property; a man in his 80s who was born, raised, and lived on the property his whole life. He had plenty of stories to tell, and assured me of what I already assumed, that the old barn held tons of memories and stories to tell as well. CLEAVE A PIECE OF WOOD
Click the image or title for fine art prints
An abandoned and decaying old wooden church sits in a field with a large, bare tree growing over the old building under blue and pink hazy skies. While this beautiful old building looks pretty rough, it still seems pretty solid judging by the condition of the exposed framing that can be seen from inside. It would be wonderful to see it restored considering the craftsmanship that went into it, and the beautiful location where it sits. Shot in Walters, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
HILLBILLY HAVEN
Click the image or title for fine art prints
An abandoned old cabin in the woods with a recliner sitting up against the front outer wall, surrounded by fall leaves and climbing vines. The cabin is one of 5 located on a bluff just above the spillway of the local dam, and creek that runs out from it. While the area beneath the old cabins is now a state park, apparently at one time this was a fairly nice and fairly popular vacation resort of sorts. Surely there are tons of wonderful vacation memories within these walls. Sad to see them abandoned, and in such disrepair, as the spot where they are located is quite beautiful. With some elbow grease the cabins could probably host many more memorable getaways. Shot in Spavinaw, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
HAUNTING THE OLD BUNKHOUSE

LAST STAGE COACH

Retro style view of an old stone building that was a stage station with a fully restored old stage coach parked in front. Processed using a variety of techniques to give an aged, vintage look to the overall image and then add the aspect of it being in the process of being restored. LITTLE RED LOVE SHACK
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Abandoned old red cabin in the countryside with vines taking over the outside walls and the colors of Autumn all around it. "If these walls could talk" is quite the appropriate statement when it comes to these beautiful, abandoned, old cabins located right along the spillway recreation area of the lake. One can only imagine the number of families with children running around playing, begging to go for a swim, and enjoying an evening cookout on vacation these walls have hosted. Or the countless number of couples in love enjoying a weekend getaway, falling asleep in each other's arms as the soothing sounds of nature, and gentle water flowing from the spillway, sing them to sleep. And the list goes on. These walls are most definitely talking, if one simply takes the time to listen. Shot in Spavinaw, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
LITTLE TOWER ON THE PRAIRIE
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Monochrome shot of an abandoned old building with a small tower at the front of it in the countryside. I don't know if this was a church, or perhaps an old schoolhouse, or .. who knows? There really were no markings, or other indications of what the old building was used for. This was shot in the federally evacuated town of Picher, Oklahoma. Originally evacuated by the government due to toxicity in the area from decades of mining, along with unpredictable cave-ins becoming more and more frequent. A huge tornado hit the town a couple years after the evacuation, forcing the few holdouts left in the town to abandon it. I don't know if it can be considered a "ghost town", but I can definitely say it is the creepiest place I've ever visited for a multitude of reasons. MOTHER IN-LAW CABIN
Click the image or title for fine art prints
An abandoned old cinder block building sits in a field on the outskirts of town slowly being reclaimed by nature. Shot during winter under clear blue skies with dry grass and weeds all around the building, and bare trees against small rolling hills on the horizon. While I'm quite sure this is / was not really a mother in-law cabin, it apparently was something that the owner didn't want in close proximity to their home, as there are no signs of another structure ever being near it, at least within a couple hundred yards. Shot in Pryor, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
NATURE'S FORECLOSURE
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Monochromatic view of an abandoned old brick building with boarded up windows, and a huge tree growing up through the roof. This building is located along a very old section of the original Route 66. The road is now in very bad shape and not heavily traveled at all. While I can't say for sure what type of business this building held, it is obvious that it was at one time thriving and received allot of traffic. The energy at this place is a bit negative, but not one of hostility or anger. More of a sort of sadness caused by missing the activity the building used to host, and lack of visitors that it had become accustomed to. Maybe someday, it will be revitalized and brought back to its former glory. Shot in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
NEXT LANDING
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Interior of a stairwell inside an old building built in 1884. Shot from the top of the stairs looking downward at the landing with a pair of windows streaming sunlight into the otherwise dark area. This was shot just before a major restoration project on the building, so it was pretty close to all original. Processed using a variety of techniques to give an overall sense of age to the photo with brushstrokes revealing the original underneath. Shot in Rose, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
NO DIVING ALLOWED (MAY CAUSE DIZZINESS)

NUCLEAR BARN
Click the image or title for fine art prints
High key black and white view of an abandoned old barn rotting away in the countryside, sitting in a field of dead grass and bare trees of winter. The haze that was present when shooting made it difficult to bring out the details of the old barn without blowing out the highlights, but I felt the blown out look combined with the condition of the building gave an appearance of the affects of a nuclear blast, hence the title. Shot in Locust Grove, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
OLD FASHIONED DAM
Click the image or title for fine art prints
View of the spillway side of the dam during a light fog. Shot at the Pensacola Dam. The first hydroelectric facility constructed in Oklahoma. GRDA built the dam between December 30, 1938, and March 21, 1940, when depression-era labor was abundant. It is located between the communities of Langley and Disney, spanning a mile across the Grand River Valley and holding back the 43,500 acres of water that form Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees. © 2022 Rob Heber- All Rights Reserved

PARDON OUR RUBBLE
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Monochrome view of the exterior of an abandoned, old, stone building. The roof of the old building is gone, as are the windows, doors, and most of the interior features. It is apparent that at one point the building was gutted by a fire, and is now being slowly reclaimed by nature. There isn't much information available about the old building, but it seems that this was either an old car dealership, or a service station. Perhaps both at some point in time. Shot in Shamrock, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
WHERE WIND AND TIME COMES SWEEPING
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Selective color, retro style view of a heavily weathered, old, wooden barn in the countryside, that used to be a fairly common scene. Now, they are much fewer, and farther between, for a variety of reasons. Like many, this old beauty was retired several years ago, but still has plenty of stories to tell from its "heyday" and beyond. Shot in Locust Grove, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
RUST AND ROT IN THE COUNTRYSIDE
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Retro style monochrome view of the side of an abandoned old barn in the countryside with a rusting tin roof, planks, boards, and sections of the old wooden barn rotting away, and surrounded by overgrown grass, weeds, and brush. Everyone knows that the small family farm and ranch has been fading from existence in American for quite some time. While there are still quite a few functioning farms and ranches in the area, they are becoming fewer and farther between. Either being replaced by housing tracts, commercial districts, or left to rot away along with the many memories these old out buildings hold. Shot in Cleveland, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
RUST IN THE WIND
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Black and white vertical shot of a damaged and weathered old windmill in an overgrown rural field. One cannot deny that the windmills, or "wind turbines" of today, are marvels of technology and craftsmanship. But, so were these back in their day, along with some true character added in, which they still retain today. Shot in Pryor, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
SCHOOL'S OUT
Click the image or title for fine art prints
View of an old fashioned, one room, schoolhouse (Nolan River School) complete with an old school bell in the foreground. The original school was built in 1855 and functioned as a one room schoolhouse from 1855 - 1877. This replica was built in 2012, and although I believe it is in the same spot as the original, I cannot say for sure what, if any, materials or design used are original or not. SEARCHING FOR SPIDERMAN
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Retro style, monochrome, vanishing perspective view of a row of windows in an old brick building leading from bottom frame upward to top of frame and beyond. While this is a back wall that faces an alley, the rest of the old building is quite ornate, and obviously from a different time. One can only imagine the events that have taken place behind these windows over the many decades that they've been around. Shot in Tulsa, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
SHUTTERED (Good Business, Evil Economy)
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Close-up view of the front of an old building that used to contain several small businesses. The old building is heavily weathered, and definitely showing signs of its age, and wear and tear. It is apparent that at one time, effort was put in to sprucing up the old building, and there were small businesses inhabiting the storefronts giving it a real go. The whole building is abandoned now, or at least there has obviously been no tenants, activity, or maintenance for quite some time. Shot in Ryan, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved
SIMPLY NOTHING LEFT TO SPILL

Monochromatic, retro style view of the spillway side of an old dam processed in a way to give the overall look of the image an aged, vintage look. The spillway side of Beaver Dam in Eureka Springs, AR. Portions of the dam were built way back in 1849 and are still standing strong today. Proof that functionality does not have to mean lack of aesthetic beauty. Shot in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
MORE NUCLEAR BARN

A slightly closer view of the same barn in "Nuclear Barn." High key black and white view of an abandoned old barn rotting away in the countryside, sitting in a field of dead grass and bare trees of winter. The haze that was present when shooting made it difficult to bring out the details of the old barn without blowing out the highlights, but I felt the blown out look combined with the condition of the building gave an appearance of the affects of a nuclear blast, hence the title. TALL DRINK OF WATER
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Monochrome view of an abandoned old water tower with an abandoned old building next to it, under ominous looking cloudy skies, in the countryside. One of the more interesting, and odd places that I've visited in search of subjects to photograph. The town is very small to start with, add to that, the fact that at least half of the buildings in the town are very obviously abandoned and being reclaimed by nature. Yet the rest of the buildings in town, while very old, are also very obviously still being occupied. I can't even say for sure that the old water tower isn't still being used, but it was very, very rusty, and in obvious disrepair. I also have no idea what the building next to it was as I didn't venture inside. There are bars on the window, a very old tin roof, and severe damage to the exterior walls. In any case, I hope to someday visit again. Shot in Shamrock, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.

THIS OLD HOUSE
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Monochromatic view of an old two story wooden house that has definitely seen better days. The house appears to be very old judging by the design, the heavily weathered and peeling wooden slat exterior, and sandstone foundation holding the old building up. At the same time it appears that attempts were made to restore and update the old house with more modern aluminum windows and metal roof. It would appear that someone really fell in love with the home, but either ran out of money during restoration, or perhaps ran into more problems with the old structure than they could handle. Sad to see it sit and rot in any case, but nice that it is still standing as a reminder of the past. Shot in Kellyville, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
URBAN JUNGLE
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Some vintage architecture in downtown complete with brick, ornate window carvings, and several fire escapes among other old fashioned features. Shot from the ground looking upward at an angle to give a feeling of being surrounded by the tall buildings. Processed in a way to give the appearance of an old black and white shot being wiped away to reveal the color image, or perhaps the other way around. Shot in Tulsa, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
STONE COLD
Click the image or title for fine art prints
An abandoned old stone building that has definitely been neglected, and seen rough treatment, stands in the countryside, with snow covering the old roof, and the ground all around. When I came across this, I really felt like this would have been a nice place to be during the snow back in the day, and I'm sure it has plenty of stories of winters past. Shot in Pryor, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
AGRICULTURE IS TIMELESS
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Retro style view of an abandoned, old, grain processing plant in the countryside. Complete with part of an old John Deere tractor, and a grain silo in the foreground. Unfortunately, more, and more of these local agricultural businesses are disappearing, and it has to make one wonder, just where is our food coming from these days? Shot in Ryan, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
BUSY
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Close-up view of the exterior of a medical building, with a large amount of windows. Some unique ledges overhang above each row of windows, casting some interesting shadows and reflections into the glass. Shot from ground level, at an angle to provide the most glimpses at the patterns created by the overlapping lines created by the ledges, windows, reflections, shadows, and other lines of the building. Shot in Tulsa, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
WINDOWS BRICKS AND CROSSES
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Close-up view of a fairly large section of an old office building, with row after row of windows. Nearly every window is unique from the next, in that some have shades, while others don't. Some are closed, others are partially opened, etc... Each window has a cross separating the panes, and there are columns of brick running vertically between every other row, and columns of cement tile between the others. Quite the example of some beautiful, classic architecture that adorns downtown Tulsa. Shot in Tulsa, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
MEMORIES OF AN OLD BARN
Click the image or title for fine art prints
An old barn in the countryside rotting away and falling apart. It is amazing that this old beauty is still standing with half the lumber that holds it together missing, and the rest obviously weathered and rotting. It's finds like this that make the drives for hours along the back roads all worth it. Shot along Whitfield Road, Comanche County, Oklahoma. © 2024 Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
A DIFFERENT FCC

FARMING IS FADING

Retro style, selective color view of an old red barn with a couple grain silos next to it. THE OLD BARN IS LOSING FACE
Click the image or title for fine art prints
Selective color view of an old wooden barn in the countryside surrounded by bare trees of winter. More than half of the wooden planks that used to cover the front of the barn are missing and the rest are in various stages of decay, Although it doesn't appear to have much longer, the old barn has stood for many, many years and has tons of stories to tell of farm life in the past. Vintage style monochrome view of an abandoned and derelict old wooden barn in the countryside. Complete with rotting boards, rusted and heavily damaged tin roof, metal coral fence, and a large bare tree that has grown up right out of the side of the old barn, this is not an uncommon scene in rural Southern Oklahoma. This old barn and coral obviously served well for many years and most likely have a ton of stories they could tell. Shot in Comanche, Oklahoma. © Rob Heber - All Rights Reserved.
HOUSE OF BORROWED TIME
